Can We Be Spoiled & Evolved at the Same Time?
Sometimes it seems we awake one morning and everything is different; something has shifted, causing everything else to re-align. Often, this is a good feeling, because it means we’ve let go of something and/or opened to something else.
But does it really happen overnight or in an instant, like a Fairy Godmother waving her wand over our slumbering heads?
While there is a moment when a final ‘click’ may unlock a once-mysterious puzzle, it’s usually more gradual and subtle than this. Often, the wheels have been turning on this issue for some time – it’s just been beneath our radar, happening in the subconscious and when we sleep, maybe even working with other universal forces, all collaborating to help us move on.
If we weren’t meant to evolve, it wouldn’t feel so good when we do. Maybe the epiphanies we sometimes get and the moments when we know we’ve overcome a challenge – they’re deeply stirring because we need to be rewarded for not only our good deeds, but our intimate leaps of personal and emotional growth.
There’s nothing wrong with positive reinforcement… Isn’t feeling good our ultimate goal? Don’t we have more to offer others when the rewards are internal and we feel good from the inside out?
But do we forget this sometimes, trying to collect happiness like objects that can be bought? Do we lose sight of that inherently-bubbling brook of joy when our Christmas lists are weighted down with flat-screen TVs, iPods, new cars and such? Or are we able to achieve a balance of outer and inner rewards and joy?
I guess that’s something we each have to ask ourselves (if we’re so inclined).
